Yuzvendra Chahal, Ryan Parag and other Indian stars to participate in new league ahead of IPL

The Shani Trophy is all set to delight cricket fans next month, with exciting Indian players like Yuzvendra Chahal, Ryan Parag and Rahul Tewatia confirmed to feature in the tournament’s unique format.

The tournament is organized by Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA), Lucknow Cricket Association and Divi Future Sports. The Shani Trophy offers the fans a unique experience of watching retired cricket legends, current Ranji Trophy players and talented state level cricketers perform together.

Yuzvendra Chahal, Ryan Parag and Rahul Tewatia are set to play in the Shani Trophy.

This tournament is scheduled to be held in Lucknow. Apart from former Rajasthan Royals teammates Yuzvendra Chahal, Ryan Parag and Rahul Tewatia, Tamil Nadu’s rising star B Sai Sudharsan and veteran all-rounder Jayant Yadav will also feature in this spectacular Shani Trophy, the organizers said.

The Shani Cup will be held in an amazing format of over 25 teams and 10 teams will compete in the top tournament. Fans can enjoy two matches every day – one in the morning and another in the afternoon or evening. Recently India’s chief selector Chetan Sharma has been roped in as the brand ambassador of the Shani Trophy to attract more crowds.

Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association and Lucknow Cricket Association have officially sanctioned this event as stated in a letter to Mr. Sumit Shukla, President of Shani Trophy and Managing Director of Div Future Sports. In partnership with Divya Future Sports, UPCA’s aim is to create a high quality cricket tournament that combines culture with innovation.

Sumit Shukla in an official statement (as quoted by News18): “We are delighted to bring this unique format to life in collaboration with Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) and Lucknow Cricket Association (CAL). With the support of UPCA and CAL, with the participation of some of the best cricketers, we aim to provide fans with an unforgettable cricket experience.

Notably, Yuzvendra Chahal and Ryan Parag will not be seen together in pink for Rajasthan Royals in the upcoming IPL 2025, as the star Indian leg-spinner has joined Punjab Kings (PBKS) for the next season. Chahal will play in IPL 2025 under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer.

Chahal last played for India in 2023 but was part of India’s 2024 T20 World Cup winning squad. But he did not get a single game in the tournament. But the leg-spin has been a regular in the IPL, taking 205 wickets in 160 matches so far. Chahal and Dhanashree got married in December 2020.
