William Zepeda returns on March 29: The Cancun Clash

William Zepeda will fight on March 29 in Cancun, Mexico, but not in a rematch with Tevin Farmer as previously reported. Lightweight contender Zepeda (32-0, 27 KOs) is recovering from a hand injury and will face a yet-to-be-determined opponent.

#1 135-lb contender Zepeda injured his left hand during a 10-round split decision win over Farmer at Turki Al-Sheikh’s Latino Night event in Riyadh on November 16th. Williams’ injury has ruled out WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson on the February 22 card.

No farmer rematch.

Zepeda will need an opponent to prepare him for his unfamiliar style if he challenges Shakur in the summer. The farmer is not suitable for this because he thinks wars will stay in his pocket.

“I just asked and they told me that the farmer is not going to be a competitor in March,” said Salvador Rodriguez. X About William Zepeda’s next battle in March. “Williamzepeda2, WBC interim champion, returns March 29 in Cancun.”

This news does not please the farmer. He was hoping for a rematch with Zepeda and still believes he deserves a win from their fight last November. I watched the fight and gave Zepeda a 9-1 win. The body shots he landed in each round more than made up for the small handful of head shots he connected with Farmer.

The judges seem to focus only on the head and for some reason ignore the bodywork. They used to notice body shots, but it doesn’t seem like they did in this fight. Zepeda still did more than enough to win a clear decision.

If Zepeda is going to battle Shakur this summer, he needs someone with a similar style. It’s too bad Jose ‘Rio’ Valenzuela won’t be fighting at his weight anymore because he’ll be perfect.

There aren’t many fighters in the lightweight division that can help prepare Zepeda for Shakur. Andy Cruz will be good, but it’s a very dangerous fight for Zepeda because he’s smarter than Shakur and has much better offensive skills.
