White House OPM orders all DEI offices to begin closing late Wednesday
WASHINGTON – The federal Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has notified agency and department heads that it must begin taking steps to close all Diversity, Equity and Inclusion offices by the end of Wednesday and put government employees on paid leave. Fox News Digital has learned.

Office of Personnel Management Acting Director Charles Ezell issued a directive Tuesday evening to department and agency heads and acting heads to do the following no later than 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22:
- Send an agency-wide notice to employees informing them of the closure and if they are aware of any efforts to impersonate these programs using code or obscure language.
- Send notice to all employees of the Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access (DEIA) that they will be placed on paid administrative leave immediately while the agency takes steps to close/terminate all DEIA initiatives, offices, and programs.
- Download all external media (websites, social media accounts, etc.) of the DEIA offices.
- Final or pending documents, guidance, orders, materials, and equity plans issued by the agency in response to the now-repealed Executive Order 14035, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access in the Federal Workforce (June 25, 2021).
- Cancel any DEIA-related training and terminate any DEIA-related contractors.

The memo instructs agency and department heads to share with OPM by noon on Thursday, January 23:
- Complete list of DEIA offices and employees in those offices as of 5 November 2024
- A complete list of all DEIA-related agency contracts effective November 5, 2024.
- Any agency plans to fully comply with the above executive orders and this memorandum
By 5 p.m. Friday, agency officials must provide OPM with:
- A written plan to carry out the retrenchment action regarding the staff working in the DEIA office
- Effective November 5, 2024, all contract descriptions or employee position descriptions changed to conceal their relationship to DEIA programs.

The memo comes after President Trump signed an executive order to remove all DEI programs from the federal government.
The President signed an executive order declaring “the official policy of the United States government to recognize only the two sexes, male and female.”
