Former India cricketer Surinder Khanna recently made a rare appearance with the bat in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 but did not hold back in criticizing the selectors’ decision to ignore Karun Nair for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Karun Nair scored 779 runs with five hundreds in just seven matches at an impressive average of 389.5 and remained unbeaten in six consecutive innings in the recent Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25. His impressive batting performance created a huge buzz among cricket experts.

Surinder Khanna blamed the Indian selectors for ignoring Karun Nair despite his impressive 2024-25 Vijay Hazare Trophy performance.

Many former cricketers said it was time for Nair to make his long-awaited return to the international scene after a decade, but the Indian selectors were heartbroken again by excluding the Vidarbha captain for both England ODIs and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Expressing his disappointment over Karun Nair’s snub, Surinder Khanna questioned his decision to ignore the 33-year-old batsman for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

The former Indian cricketer also said that the Indian cricket team needs young, agile players for the fast-paced demands of the ODI format, including Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja.

I think Karun Nair is a bit lucky: Surinder Khanna.

“I think Karun Nair is a bit unlucky,” Surinder Khanna told ANI. I wish I was the chairman of the selectors. He hit 300 in a Test match and then disappeared. Now suddenly the moon is out again, so the moon has to shine for 2-3 years, and how many 35-36 year olds can you have in the group? It is a one day format; They want fast movers on the field.

Meanwhile, Surinder Khanna has not held back his harsh criticism of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The Indian skipper has blasted Rohit Sharma’s fielding moves, saying the opposition can easily steal runs if he sits on the boundary.

Khanna pointed out that Virat Kohli’s fielding in the slips and in the circle is no longer effective and is affecting the overall performance of the Indian team. However, Kohli is one of the best fielders in the world.

The captain is also weak: Surinder Khanna over Rohit Sharma

Kanana continued, “The captain is weak. I mean a couple of runs from Rohit Sharma’s pitch on the boundary would be easily taken away. Virat Kohli also works on the slip field and only works the fields in the circle. Kohli is not making runs on the field; He is making a lot of effort in the club. I hope they all stay sane and focused and get back in shape.

However, former cricketer Shubman praised their decision to appoint Gill as India’s vice-captain for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025; He said this is a very good and positive development. Gill promised but signed off saying the youngster needs to find his form with the bat, which is key for him and the team.
