UConn’s Dan Hurley takes down the referee in the Huskies’ overtime win: ‘Did I say that?’

UConn Men’s Basketball Coach Dan Hurley’s latest sideline altercation with officials was caught on broadcast cameras Tuesday night as the Huskies cruised through overtime to win their 15th-straight game at the XL Center in Hartford.

The veteran coach who led the Huskies back to back National championships Over the past two seasons, he’s been known to let officials know exactly what he’s feeling. Tuesday night was no different, but Harley’s choice of words for an official became an instant viral moment on social media.

With UConn leading by 10 late in the first half, Hurley approached the referee after he felt he should have called a foul on a defensive rebound attempt.

However, when Harley pleaded the case, the official turned his back on the coach. That’s when the broadcast picked up Harley’s epic one-liner.

“Don’t turn your back on me. I’m the best coach in f–ing sports.”

Hurley did not deny making the comments to the post game newspaper, explaining that he was looking for more “communication” from the officials.

“I said so,” Harley replied with a smile. “Yeah, I sound like an a–hole here—I need some level of connection, too.”

Harley went a step further in his own defense, saying his relationship with authorities was not unique, but it was his camera time.

“I just wish they’d put the camera on the other coach,” he continued. “I wish they would show these other coaches that they have lost their minds over other officials. Big East Games That I was training where I saw it – going into a timeout where I wasn’t talking to the authorities. I see the other coaches as my example.

UConn had won 28 straight at home before Saturday’s loss at Creighton, but rebounded with a career-high 23-point solo performance in an 80-78 overtime win on Tuesday. Butler above.
