Trump vows immigration crackdown, takes control at Washington rally Investing.com
Investing.com — President-elect Donald Trump has made a number of promises as he prepares to take office this week, including a crackdown on immigration and deregulation.
Trump’s victory parade before his inauguration on Monday reflected many of his campaign promises, particularly his tough rhetoric on illegal immigration. It was Trump’s first major address in Washington since 2021.
We will deport illegal aliens, gangs and immigrant criminals operating on American soil, Trump said in his speech at the “Make America Great Again Victory Rally” Capital one (NYSE: ) Arena.
He has promised to rescind all executive orders issued by President Joe Biden, and says he’s preparing for a spectacular first day in office. Fox News Digital reports that Trump plans to sign more than 200 executive orders when he takes office on Monday.
Trump has also promised to reduce regulations on the US energy industry, reiterating his plans to reduce government control. In an effort led by Tesla (NASDAQ: ) CEO Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy under the Department of Government Efficiency, he has announced plans to cut government spending.
Missing from Trump’s remarks was a plan to impose trade tariffs, particularly on China. The president-elect has been very vocal about China during his campaign, promising to impose tariffs of up to 60% on Chinese goods.
Concerns that Trump’s tariff plans could support inflation and raise interest rates in the long run remain a major concern. But Trump on Sunday vowed to lower inflation and cut taxes.
Despite his tough stance on China, Trump had earlier promised to delay a ban on the popular social media app TikTok on his first day in office.
TikTok began bringing some of its services back to the United States after Trump’s comments called for the president-elect to work with TikTok owner ByteDance to keep the app in the US.
Sunday’s parade was attended by a variety of celebrities, including the famous actor Sylvester Stallone and the musician Kid Rock, in shows and performances. Tesla Musk was also seen at the rally.
