Investing.com – U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Sunday a series of measures against Colombia after the Colombian government rejected two U.S. military flights carrying migrants.

Trump ordered his administration to impose “25% tariffs on all goods imported into the United States” within a week.

According to Trump, these measures are necessary because the decision of Colombian President Gustavo Petro threatens the national security of the United States. The retaliatory measures include tariffs, visa restrictions and other measures.

Trump announced the decision on his social media site Truth Social, saying these actions are just the beginning.

“These steps are just the beginning. We will not allow the Colombian government to violate its legal obligations to accept and return criminals it has forced into the United States!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The Colombian government denies violating its legal obligations regarding the reception and return of refugees who have been forcibly entered into the United States.

Last Sunday, President Petro announced that his government would not accept flights carrying immigrants deported from the United States until the Trump administration developed a protocol that would ensure dignified treatment.

Petro’s ad featured two articles, one of which featured a news video of migrants transported to Brazil walking on a tarmac with their hands and feet hostage.
