President-elect Trump announced on Saturday that he has nominated Penny Schwinn, a former Tennessee Department of Education commissioner, to be deputy secretary of the United States Department of Education.
While in Tennessee, Schwinn oversaw the department’s response to the coronavirus pandemic. Governor Bill LeeS The school voucher program and the state’s school funding formula have been overhauled, the Associated Press reported.

The Dem senator, who was embarrassed by Hegseth’s performance, stood by Dodd Sec, who oversaw Afghanistan’s withdrawal from the race.
Schwinn previously served as Deputy Commissioner of Standards and Engagement, Deputy Commissioner of Special Populations and Tracking, and Chief Deputy Commissioner of Academic Affairs at the Texas Education Agency.
She was also an assistant secretary of education in Delaware.

Trump congratulated Schwinn in a post on Truth Social on Saturday.
“Penny, a former teacher, became the founding principal of a charter school because she believes in the power of school choice and is committed to delivering the American dream to the next generation by bringing education back to the states,” Trump wrote. “Congratulations to Penny and her wonderful family!”

Schwinn received his master’s degree from Johns Hopkins, and his Ph.D. From Claremont.
