Kenyan police have arrested a man with a mutilated body in his bag, which he says is his 19-year-old wife.

Officers found 29-year-old John Kiyama Wambua at dawn while patrolling Huruma district, east of Nairobi.

Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said in a statement that Wambua, who suspected he was carrying illegal items, searched his bag and “shockedly” found the body parts.

The DCI described the act as “heinous”, adding that the suspect will be charged with murder in a court hearing soon.
