The Indian team management was ordered to give a longer rope to Abhishek Sharma
Former Indian national cricket team skipper Piyush Chawla was appalled by the way Abhishek Sharma fared in the first T20I against the England national cricket team. He called the beat X Factor and said that the beat needs a longer rope in the group.
Abhishek Sharma played a major role for the Indian National Cricket Team in their 7-wicket win over England National Cricket Team in the first T20I. The opening match of the teams’ five-match series was played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Abhishek found his chase of 133 too easy as he went after the bowlers right from the start. He played high-risk cricket and some amazing shots, beating the bowlers all over the park. The left-hander entertained the crowd with a ‘Yuvraj-like’ dash.
Abhishek Sharma blames the third century on India
Abhishek hit his third century for the Indian national cricket team and surprisingly reached the milestone in just 20 balls. He scored the second-fastest half-century by India in T20Is against England, joining Yuvraj Singh, who did so in just 12 balls.
Abhishek scored 79 off 34 balls with 5 fours and 8 sixes to complete his innings with a strike rate of over 232. Thanks to his brilliant efforts with the bat, he helped the Indian national cricket team chase down the target of 13 overs. Go up 1-0 in the series.
You have to give these guys a longer rope – Piyush Chawla over Abhishek Sharma
Piyush Chawla called Abhishek a ‘high-risk batsman’ and said batsmen like him need a longer rope. He also talked about the batting mentality and while speaking to Jio Cinemas, he explained:
“Abhishek Sharma is a high-danger batsman. When he scores a run in a match, it becomes a match-winner. Abhishek is an X-factor player, scoring 60 runs in 20-22 balls. For these guys. You should give a longer cable.
“He started off slow today but scored his fifty in just 20 balls. It shows his mentality and the range he is in. He uses long balls and plays big balls.”
Today I thought he was tactful about his approach – Parthiv Patel by Abhishek Sharma
Part of the conversation, Parthiv Patel said Abhishek was methodical about his approach. Even though he had a few setbacks on his back, he played with the same method and stuck to his method.
He added that usually when the batsmen have a low score for the batsmen, they tend to go into the shell but Abhishek Sharma didn’t do that and his mindset was the same.
“He didn’t have a lot of form so there was definitely a question mark over his position. But today I thought he was methodical about his approach. I thought the England bowlers missed the trick by not using bouncers early on Abhishek Sharma. But that’s how he plays.”
“What I like about Sharma is that even though he doesn’t have a streak, he sticks to his game plan. That’s what he did in the IPL and when he played in India. He got a hundred against Zimbabwe. He hasn’t changed his approach, you go back into your shell without batting and try to get 30-40 and then Abhishek. I thought Sharma didn’t do that, so that’s a good sign of his mindset.”
