The ban on the House of Commons has been lifted after the state’s lawyer was hospitalized after a clash caused by the virus

A Georgia state senator was barred from entering the State House chamber after he fell to the floor and was arrested and hospitalized in an ugly incident on Thursday.

Earlier, Fulton County District Attorney Fannie Willis tried to get state Sen. Colton Moore to indict the former president after a heated exchange at the entrance to the House chamber, blocking officials from entering. Gov. Brian Kemp to participate in the State of the State Address.

Moore, in Trenton, Dade County, was pushed to the floor by Keith Williams, an attorney in the office of House Speaker John Burns, as he tried to enforce the ban on Moore by the speaker. Moore was banned from the chamber last year after denouncing the state Senate’s decision to consider naming a building at the University of North Georgia after the late former House Speaker David Ralston.

Moore made several attempts to pass House staff on Thursday but was pushed back on several occasions. Then, at one point, he sent William Moore flying, sending the senator crashing to the floor. After another break-in attempt, Moore was arrested by state troopers.

Later that evening, Moore posted a video of himself sitting in a hospital bed with a blood pressure monitor strapped to his arm. His other arm was up on the bed’s guard rail.

“I’ve got a little bruise, my hand, it’s a little swollen and purple; we’re waiting to get some x-rays to look at it,” Moore said.

“They took away my freedom and liberty today when I fought for freedom and liberty. But I’m telling you, we still have a constitutional duty to do, and I’ll still be in that legislature tomorrow morning. Thank you all. For your support.”

Burns initially said the incident was “unbelievably sad” and that Moore “created a dangerous situation when he chose to use force against our law enforcement officers, doormen and housekeeping staff.” “Non-negotiable – Time”

On Friday, Burns, R-Newington, lifted the ban after state Senate and Republican leaders lined up to support Moore.

“The desire to create violence and gain publicity in the press violates the longstanding rules and precedents of decorum that every member of the General Assembly is responsible for upholding,” Moore said. But Ralston said he doesn’t want the Legislature’s work to get in the way and welcomes Moore to the joint sessions without apology.

“As a result, the Ralston family has expressed to the family that they would like our council to continue business as usual – with all members of the General Assembly in attendance – for future joint meetings, and they will unapologetically own the house,” Burns said.

Moore’s ban stemmed from a speech he made last year blasting former Speaker Ralston, a Republican.

Moore accused Ralston of using him as an attorney to delay court cases for criminal defendants. Ralston said in 2019 that his actions were completely legal.

“This body is going to memorialize one of the most corrupt leaders Georgia will ever see in my lifetime,” Moore said at the time.

This isn’t the first time Colton, a self-described “RINO wrangler,” has clashed with his Republican colleagues.

In the year In 2023, the Georgia Republican Senate caucus suspended Moore, attacking them for opposing his plan to impeach Willis for accusing Trump of election meddling.

Moore was the most prominent supporter in the special session of impeaching and removing Willis or vacating her office and winning Trump’s support. Kemp denounced Moore’s call to boost campaign contributions as “some grifter scam.”

Willis’ case was eventually solved, in part because she had an affair with the prosecutor she hired.

Moore was booked into the Fulton County Jail on a charge of willfully obstructing law enforcement.

After Moore took a shot imitating the one Donald Trump famously took at the same jail, a supporter posted Moore’s $1,000 bail.

Lt. Edward Stallings, a spokesman for the troopers, said he had no information on whether the charges would be dismissed.
