A Texas father had a medical emergency and died trying to save his teenage son; He was killed in an accidental shooting by his own brother, authorities and local reports said.

Police responding to a shooting at a Texas City home just before 1:30 a.m. found 17-year-old Joshua Gonzalez dead on arrival, the Texas City Police Department said.

An investigation determined that Joshua Gonzalez’s brother, 15, “accidentally discharged the weapon,” resulting in the 17-year-old’s death, police said.

“During an attempt to administer life-saving measures, the victim’s father, Julian Gonzales, tragically suffered a fatal medical condition,” police said.

“He did a lot for a lot of people. He’s gone now. I know this world will feel it. He touched a lot of hearts. He did a lot for the community,” said Melo Salazar, Gonzalez’s friend and business partner. The site.

Police said detectives questioned his 15-year-old brother and released him pending further investigation.

Family and friends told FOX26 they are concerned for the safety of Gonzalez’s 15-year-old son following the tragedy.

“All that hurt and pain, and questions, and ‘what ifs,’ and guilt, and self-blame, and all that, even though it was just an accident,” Salazar said.
