Tesla to significantly increase the price of all cars in Canada, the website shows
(Reuters) – Tesla ( TSLA ) will raise the price of all its cars in Canada starting Feb. 1, according to ads on its Canadian website, raising the price of the Model 3 by up to C$9,000 ($6,254.78).
Model Y variants will see increases of up to C$4,000, while all versions of the Model S and X will go up by $4,000, according to the website.
Tesla did not give a reason for the price increase.
The company does not manufacture cars in Canada and imports them from other factories. It was not immediately clear how many cars Tesla will ship to Canada from its Shanghai, China factory and plants in the US.
The company did not respond to a Reuters request for comment outside regular business hours.
Tesla’s unexpected price hike comes as Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Tuesday that his government was ready to retaliate if US President Donald Trump imposed 25% tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico.
Canada will impose 100% tariffs on electric vehicles from China, including Tesla cars manufactured in Shanghai.
