Shreyas Iyer parted ways with ex-Pakistan cricketer over Ranji Trophy 2024-25 collapse.
Former Pakistan national cricket team player Basit Ali has criticized Indian national cricket team batsman Shreyas Iyer for losing the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 match against Jammu and Kashmir.
He said that if the batsman does not understand the importance of the situation, he should only play white-ball cricket.
Mumbai had a poor outing with the bat in the ongoing 2024-25 Ranji Trophy against Jammu and Kashmir.
A team full of superstars Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer and others were bowled out for just 120 runs.
Shreyas Iyer was bowled at a strike rate of 157.14 and scored just 11 runs off seven balls.
Shreyas Iyer especially noticed Basit Ali. The Mumbai batsmen failed to get going as they managed just 11 runs off seven balls. He was looking to attack even as wickets fell at the other end as he tried to hit a boundary.
Shreyas Iyer was bowled at a strike rate of 157.14, hitting a four and a six before getting out. Mumbai were 42 for six, and then the batting wicket left them reeling at 47/7. Thankfully, Shardul Thakur smashed a half-century to take the team to 120 runs.
If red-ball cricket is happening, play it like red-ball cricket, that’s my simple advice – Basit Ali
Because Basit Ali played attacking cricket to Shreyas Iyer, batsmen came out in front of me, he attacked, which was not right. He said I should play red ball cricket like a red ball. He said this in a video posted on his YouTube channel.
“Iyer made 11 runs from 7 balls. It’s a four-day game. Three batsmen are dismissed in front of you. Play white-ball cricket in that format. If red-ball cricket is happening, play like red-ball cricket. That’s my simple advice. We’ll see what they do in the second innings.”
Shreyas Iyer should score a hundred when many players play – Basit Ali
Basit Ali has spoken about the Indian national cricket team’s batting performance in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25. He said that it is a matter of concern that the players of the team did not participate in the race. He explained.
“Rohit Sharma is out, Jaiswal is out, Gill is out, Iyer is out. It’s four-day cricket. When so many players are playing, Iyer should have scored a hundred, Rohit should have scored a hundred, even Jaiswal, Gill, Pujara are playing, are they all going to score?
In the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25, Rohit Sharma has struggled to get going. Hitting three runs off 19 balls, Jaiswal scored just four runs off eight balls. Shubman Gill managed to score just four runs for Punjab while Rishabh Pant scored just one run for Delhi.
