Shan Masood named ‘Third Class’, Imam-ul-Haq announced as Sam Ayub’s replacement
Former Pakistan cricketer Tanveer Ahmed has slammed those who are backing Imam-ul-Haq to secure a place in the Pakistan Champions Trophy ahead of Shan Masood.
Among the eight teams participating in the Champions Trophy, Pakistan is the only team that has yet to announce its first team. With Saim Ayub injured and out-of-form Abdullah Shafique and Usman Khan set to be ruled out, Pakistan are expected to make a number of changes to their ODI squad against South Africa last month.
According to reports, Imam-ul-Haq and Shan Masood are in contention for a place in the Pakistan squad. Masood has played only 9 ODIs so far, the last in the 50-over format coming in May 2023. The Pakistan Test captain has been in good form in recent times.
He played a brilliant knock of 145 runs in the second round of the Cape Town Test against South Africa earlier this month. He also scored a fifty against the West Indies in the recently concluded Test.
On the other hand, Imam-ul-Haq though has played 72 ODIs in recent times. The Southpaw has not represented Pakistan since 2023. The last ODI was played in the 2023 World Cup.

Tanveer Ahmed supported Imam-ul-Haq:
Only time will tell who will take the plunge between Imam-ul-Haq and Shan Masood, but Tanveer Ahmed has thrown his support behind the former. On Wednesday (January 22), he took to X to post a series of messages explaining why he chose Imam-al-Haq over Masood.
He began by disparaging some journalists and wrote: “Are some media people or journalists who consider themselves very righteous trying to include Shan Masood in the Champions Trophy squad instead of Saim Ayub?” My question is they will you get your food.
Why is Shan Masood Sam Ayub’s champion team?

In his second post, Tanveer said that Imam-ul-Haq should be replaced by Sam Ayub in the Pakistan team, not Masud. He pointed out that Masood has played only 9 ODIs so far and has not performed well in the format.
Tanveer wrote, “Imamul-Haq should be selected instead of Sam Ayub. Shan Masood’s performance is third-rate, he has played only 9 ODIs. Imam’s performance in ODIs is outstanding. Some of our media people have become fans of Shan.” .
Imam ul Haq should be selected as Shan Masood’s third stage fair was held only for 9 days but the performance of Imam on this main day was amazing.

Tanveer ended by posting two images comparing the batting statistics of Masood and Imam.

Meanwhile, a total of 8 teams will participate in the championship cup, which is scheduled to be held from February 19. The tournament will be held in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates. The final will be held on March 9.
The eight teams have been divided into two groups of four teams each. Group A consists of India, Pakistan, New Zealand and Bangladesh while Group B consists of Afghanistan, South Africa, England and Australia. Last year’s champions Pakistan will begin their Champions Trophy campaign against New Zealand in Karachi on February 19.
