Liver specialist and medical scientist Dr Cyriak Abby Phillips, popularly known as the ‘Liver Doctor’ on social media, recently highlighted the medicinal benefits of cow in support of Zoho Founder and CEO Sridhar Vembu, Director of IIT Madras, Prof V Kamakoti. urine (gomutra).

On Post Ox X, Liver Doc countered the ongoing debate by writing: “Hey science illiterate boomer uncle, so called traditional Indian medicine, also promotes siddha faecal transplants. How long will you keep putting your foot in your mouth, talking behind your back, and misinforming your followers?

“As an influencer, like an IT Madras professor, spread useful information about how we as a society can improve in science and scientific method, instead of promoting antiquated nonsense and primitive treatments and promoting misinformed fools like the IT Madras professor.” Zoho’s CEO highlights his role in crowdfunding.

Vembu defended Kamakoti, asserting that they failed to understand the scientific view of cow urine. Drawing parallels, he noted the growing demand for faecal transplants and stool pills as a means of restoring gut bacteria from healthy individuals—especially those from pre-industrial societies.

“If you really want to know how stool transplants have the science behind their benefits, you can read about our work here. We pioneered this technique by saving patients dying from alcohol-related hepatitis,” added Liver Doc, sharing the article.

Speaking at an event on January 15, Kamakoti said cow urine has “antibacterial, antifungal and digestive properties” and could be an effective treatment for diseases like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). However, his comments have sparked criticism, with some detractors calling the claims pseudoscience and questioning the rationale behind such statements.

“Urine therapy has no such known benefits and no science behind promoting its use. Educate yourself. And stop with the strawman fallacies,” explained the liver doc.
