Synchronized spam calls for all Android devices from Google, Xiaomi, OnePlusHonor and Samsung have successfully flagged suspected spam calls before users return them, while the iPhone 16 Pro doesn’t get the same voice call protection.
None of the tools tested fully detect phishing emails from Gmail as spam, only detecting them as spam when sent from Google SMTP.
Despite loopholes in detecting phishing texts and emails, Google’s Safe Browsing protection tools successfully blocked the link, displaying a warning screen and asking for user confirmation to continue. Performance on browsers varied greatly: Samsung effectively blocked most links, including Internet Advanced custom URLs.
“Lack of security, especially the ever-increasing threat of phishing attacks, is eroding consumer confidence,” said Omdia Senior Analyst.
“Despite recent protections by some manufacturers, 100% protection against phishing attempts is difficult, given the seriousness of the issue and the potential impact on users. However, smartphone manufacturers can (shown by the advanced phishing protection capabilities available. ) and better phishing protection is fundamental.” They should have the line “Like voice call protection, and all Android devices that use Google Safe Browsing protections.”
