Former President Obama wished his wife Michelle Obama a happy birthday on Friday, calling her “the love of my life.”
The former first lady says she is 61 years old but has avoided public appearances in recent weeks. She will not attend President-elect Trump’s inauguration on Monday and was absent from former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral last week.
To celebrate her birthday, the former president thanked her husband on Instagram, writing: “You fill every room with warmth, wisdom, humor and grace – and you look good doing it. I’m so lucky to be able to do this. Take life’s adventures with you!”

Michelle later shared the post on X and wrote, “I love you, honey!” It was followed by a heart emoji and a kiss face emoji.
Sources close to Michelle have reportedly told PEOPLE that the former first lady is considering skipping Trump’s nomination because she can’t contain her disdain for the Republican president-elect.

The former first lady repeatedly took on Trump on the campaign trail for Vice President Kamala Harris and in a speech at the Democratic National Convention in August. At a DNC speech, she accused Trump of spreading “racist lies” about his race and criticizing her husband’s political career.
Although she has been floated several times for the Democratic nomination for president, the source emphasized that the former first lady has no interest in becoming a public figure now that her public service is over.

While Trump will not attend the inauguration, the former president is scheduled to attend the inauguration on January 20, along with former presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and their spouses.

Late last year, unconfirmed rumors swirled that the Obamas’ marriage was in shambles and that Barack Obama had an affair with actress Jennifer Aniston.
Aniston vehemently denied the rumors, telling late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, “That’s completely untrue… I know Michelle better than he does.”
