New Zealand’s Melli Kerr has been named the 2024 ICC Women’s T20I Cricketer of the Year.
New Zealand fan Mellie Kerr has been awarded the prestigious ICC Women’s T20I Cricketer of the Year award for 2024.
She also carried the award after a memorable year with both bat and ball. Melie Kerr helped New Zealand win the T20 World Cup for the first time in their history and was also named player of the tournament. What made the year even more special was the desire to deliver when faced with tough conditions during the World Cup.
In the semi-final against West Indies, she was very economical in the match. Mellie Kerr picked up 2 wickets for 14 runs as New Zealand beat the 2016 T20 World Cup champions by eight runs. She contributed with both bat and ball as New Zealand managed to make history by beating South Africa in the final.
Batting at third position, she became the top scorer in the match scoring 43 runs from 38 balls. After a good start with the ball, South Africa turned the game on its head with two wickets. She ended the game with 3 for 24.

In memory of Melie Kerr for one year:
In total in 2024, Mellie Kerr scored 387 runs and took 29 wickets in 18 T20Is. She broke the record for taking most T20I wickets in a calendar year by a New Zealand women’s cricketer.
In the T20 World Cup, Kerr collected 15 wickets which is more than any bowler in the ICC Women’s T20I World Cup. She picked her wickets at an average of 7.33 and an impressive economy rate of 4.85. With the bat, she scored 135 runs in 6 innings in the marquee event.
Meanwhile, Indian star Arshdeep Singh has been named the ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year. The left-arm pacer starred with the ball as India won the T20 World Cup after a gap of 17 years. He finished the tournament as the joint-highest wicket-taker with 17 wickets in 8 matches. Overall, he picked up 36 wickets in 18 T20Is last year.
