House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.A., faced an old clip of himself in an interview Sunday saying President Biden is the best candidate to run against President-elect Donald Trump.

“What would you say to Americans who believe you and other senior Democrats have misled them?” NBC’s Christine Welker asked Jefferies if Biden is the strongest candidate to run against the current president-elect after playing a clip of himself on “The View” from February 2024.

“Well, Joe Biden was the current president at the time. He was a candidate at the time, and I supported him at the time, and it was the right thing to do based on the current president’s decision to run. To run,” Jeffries said in response to the clip.

Jeffries added that he wants to look forward, not back, and focus on delivering for Americans after Trump’s victory.

Welker continued, “Do you believe you have a responsibility to disclose more about what you saw behind closed doors with President Biden?”

“What I saw behind closed doors was a president who was working hard to deliver infrastructure to the American people, driving high-cost life-saving drugs, bringing domestic manufacturing jobs back to the United States,” Jeffries responded.

The NBC News host similarly confronted Sen. Chuck Schumer’s DNI, calling Biden’s mental health concerns “right-wing propaganda,” in his own excerpt.

Schumer said in February 2024, “His mental strength is great. Good. As good as it has been in years. All the right-wing propaganda about his diminished mental capacity is wrong.”

Asked what he would say to Americans who think they’ve been misled by top Democrats, Schumer said, “We haven’t.” President Biden. He had an impressive record. One of the most important legislative groups since Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society, the legislation we passed is a record 235 judges and a veteran.

Welker asked Schumer if he was confident Biden would run for a second term.

“Well, I don’t want to speculate. Like I said, I think his record is stellar, and he’s probably the greatest president in history,” Schumer replied.
