Details of the damage
After Madhya Pradesh were reeling at 49/4 in the 18th over, Iyer opted to field first after a strong bowling performance by Kerala to bat at number 6. Unfortunately, the 30-year-old lasted just three balls before twisting his ankle trying to make a quick move. Surprised by pain, Iyer could not continue the game outside the field with the help of the team’s physio and reserve players.

Later in the game, Iyer was seen in the dugout, one pad still in place, his injured leg propped up on a chair. While the exact severity of the injury is yet to be ascertained, the incident has raised concerns for KKR, who have invested heavily in the all-rounder during the IPL 2025 bid.

Big blow for KKR
The injury comes as a major setback for KKR, who bought Iyer for Rs 26.5 crore, making him the third most expensive player in the IPL 2025 auction. Only Rishabh Pant ($27 crore) and Shreyas Iyer (£26.75 crore) fetched a higher price. KKR showed their faith in Iyer’s talent by fending off stiff competition in their pursuit of Iyer at the auction.
