Kia is recalling EVs and hybrid vehicles due to airbag problems
Kia is recalling more than 80,000 electric and hybrid vehicles with airbag concerns, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced last week.
The call applies to 2023-2025 Niro EVs, Plug-in Hybrids (PHEVs) and Hybrid vehicles, according to the agency’s website.
“The floor wiring harness (of the recalled vehicles) may be damaged under the front passenger seat, preventing the front airbags and seat belts from deploying properly or causing unintended deployment of the side curtain airbags,” the Jan. 17 statement read.
When an airbag deploys improperly or unintentionally, it can increase the risk of injury in a crash, according to NHTSA.

Owners of the recalled vehicles are urged to visit a Kia dealer, which will inspect and repair the floor mat assembly free of charge.
The statement says, “In addition, dealers will install wire covers.” “Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on March 14, 2025.”
Affected Kia owners are encouraged to call the company’s customer service at 1-800-333-4542 with recall number SC332.

Last spring, Kia recalled more than 427,000 vehicles with the ability to operate in the fleet.
It included all Telluride vehicles built between 2020 and 2023, as well as some 2024 models. At the time, NHTSA warned that the center shaft and right front driver’s seat on the vehicles “may not fully deploy due to suspected improper assembly by the supplier.”
