Jos Buttler openly attacked the BCCI for its strict family policies regarding Indian cricketers

England’s white-ball captain Jos Buttler spoke about the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCI) new guidelines, which now allow only limited time for family members during tours. Jos Buttler’s statement comes ahead of the first T20I of the five-match series against Team India.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced new 10-point guidelines following India’s 1-3 series defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 series. In particular, family members are allowed to accompany players on tour for a maximum of 14 days if the tour lasts at least 45 days.

BCCI’s latest guidelines also require players to travel together

The guidelines mandate that players travel together, stay in the same hotel and prepare as much as possible for domestic cricket. These measures have allowed most of the previously contracted players to participate in domestic competitions. Skype Rohit Sharma and Ajit Agarkar recently discussed the new rules.

Since the onset of Covid-19, Indian players have been allowed to have their families stay with them throughout the tour. Some players chose to spend time with their families instead of attending informal team meetings and planning events.

Jos Buttler has expressed the importance of having family members packed with matches during tours, especially in the modern cricket calendar. He said that having loved ones with him does not affect his performance on the field.

“I think it’s important. We live in a day and age now, it’s a very modern world, and I think it’s great to be able to meet families on tour and be able to enjoy it with you,” Butler said during the premiere. A press conference in Kolkata ahead of the 1st T20I against India.

“There’s a lot of cricket, people spend a lot of time away from home, and I think everything post-Covid has been highlighted as well. Absolutely, I don’t think it will affect cricket too much.”

“I think it’s very manageable. Personally, from my perspective, I think it’s important to try to share that with your family and to be able to ease the burden of being away from home,” he explained.

England will stay in India till February 12 and then head to Pakistan for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. The tournament will begin on February 19, with England taking on Australia in their opening match on February 22 in Lahore.

Jos Buttler will highlight the depth of England’s squad and give confidence to the top-order batsmen as they will not have to worry too much about losing wickets.

“In this tour, talented batsmen, Gus, Karse, Rashid. We are very lucky. It gives a lot of depth and gives confidence to the guys because we can’t worry about our wickets,” Buttler added.
