Jake Tapper told Adam Schiff-Hur that Biden’s memory report ‘turned out to be very accurate.’
CNN host Jake Tapper reminded Sen. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., of how he “relentlessly cracked down on special counsel Robert Hurr” and how his report on President Biden was “very accurate.”
On Thursday’s episode, Tapper specifically asked Schiff questions about Donald Trump’s attorney general, Pam Bondi, after she said most Americans don’t trust the Justice Department.
Schiff accused Republicans of “trashing” the DOJ, but Tapper said he and other Democrats have attacked the Justice Department in the past.
“President Biden gave a very harsh assessment of the investigation into his son Hunter,” Tapper began. “He basically threw the Justice Department under the bus for those investigations. And Democrats, including you, have been relentlessly aggressive against special counsel Robert Hurr for making a very accurate observation of how Joe Biden would appear to a jury. A good thinker, an old man with a failing memory.”

“I criticized that for good reason,” Schiff argued. “And you don’t put those kind of illogical personal observations in a prosecutor’s memo. You’re not the only one. And it was done for political reasons. So that’s not it, you know, everybody, including the special counsel. They’re going to follow[the Justice Department’s]policy the way I believe they should, and when they don’t, I I call and of course I don’t agree with the president’s comment that he impeached his own son.”
Schiff went on to blame Republicans for a “year-long campaign” to paint the Justice Department as “deep government.” Tapper briefly explained the context of Hur’s comment before moving on to another topic.
“I think Robert Hurr is saying that I have to explain why he’s not impeaching President Biden for what he thinks is a violation of the law,” Tapper said.
Although Hurr found that Biden knowingly possessed classified material in violation of the law, he ultimately wrote in his February report that he did not recommend charging him with his reduced mental capacity.
“Mr. Biden may present himself to jurors as a compassionate, well-meaning, elderly man with failing memory,” Hur wrote.

According to the report, Schiff attacked Hurn during his March hearing at the House hearing.
“I want to go back to your opening statement where you said you didn’t discredit the president, your report, but you certainly discredited the president,” Schiff said at the time. “If you had to know it would have significant political influence, you downgraded it. You do understand that your report will be public, right?”

He continued, “What you wrote was very damaging to the interests of the president. You say it’s not politics, but you must have understood. Your decision to go into the details of a particular document, to generalize, to your own personal prejudices, to the personal views of the president, you knew that would add to his political opponent. You get it, you did anyway.
