IRS Advisory Council appointed 18 new members

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has appointed 18 new members to its Internal Revenue Service Advisory Council (IRSAC).

IRSAC, established in 1953, facilitates discussions between IRS officials and members of the public on various tax administration issues.

The Council provides the IRS with feedback, observations and recommendations. He will present his annual report to the agency at a public meeting in November 2025.

To qualify, IRSAC members are required to undergo an IRS tax compliance verification and an FBI fingerprint check as part of their vetting process.

IRSAC meets in Washington, DC, holding approximately five two-day sessions each year.

Chairing the Council for 2025 is President Christine Z. Freeland, CPA, based in Chandler, Arizona.

Freeland, who has volunteer tax service experience at various levels, has served as president of the National Association of Certified Public Accountants.

In addition, Freeland is a presenter at the IRS National Tax Forum and is actively involved with the Arizona Association of Accountants and Tax Professionals.

She is committed to educating professionals on ethics in accordance with Circular 230 and participates in industry rounds.

The IRS aims to ensure that IRSAC represents a cross-section of the taxpayer community, including tax professionals, businesses of all sizes, tax-exempt entities, government organizations and those with information reporting needs.

The new appointees, including Grace Allison, Pablo Bado, Selvan Bouminathan, Caroline Bruckner, Kendra Cooks and Rolanda Watson, will serve three-year terms beginning in January 2025.

Prospective candidates for IRSAC will be accepted by the IRS in the spring of 2025, with selected members beginning their terms in January 2026.
