IPL 2025: ‘Frustrated and Disturbed’ Umesh Yadav angry at auction: “It’s against the franchise…”
Out-of-favour India fast bowler Umesh Yadav has expressed his dismay at not being sold in the IPL 2025 mega auction. Not many expected the auction to go unsold, but it failed to attract a single bid.
Yadav has been playing in the IPL since the 2009 season and has not missed a single season since then. He started his IPL career with Delhi Capitals and hit the ground running and impressed one and all with his moves. His performance in the IPL season helped Umesh Yadav earn his first call-up from the Indian team in 2010.

In the year He won the IPL with Kolkata Knight Riders in 2014 and also plied his trade for two other franchises – Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans. In IPL 2024, Umesh Yadav was part of the Titans camp. Last season he played 7 matches and took 8 wickets.
Experienced fast bowlers, especially Indian pacers, usually attract a lot of interest in the auction. However, all ten franchises decided not to go for a mega bid for Umesh Yadav. And the senior pacer admitted that he was shocked that he did not get an IPL contract.
He did not hesitate to say that he was disappointed. The Vidarbha star says he is ‘distressed and upset’ over what happened at the mega auction.
“Everybody knows that he was not selected for IPL this year. I have been playing for 15 years. (Not being sold in IPL 2025) is a shock to me. Why am I lying? I feel bad. After playing so much and playing close to 150 IPL matches, he was not selected.
“It’s about the franchise and their strategy, or my name came late in the auction, and they weren’t left with money. Whatever it is, something happened. I’m very upset and disturbed. But still, it’s okay. I can’t. Change anyone’s decision,” he added.

I myself will quit cricket: Umesh Yadav
Speaking further, Yadav made it clear that he still has a lot of cricket left in him. He said he was determined to bounce back after a leg operation earlier this year and the day he felt he could no longer play cricket, he would just quit.
“After that, I had a foot operation. I bowl until I feel I can run 140 kmph. When I can’t bowl, I stop cricket myself. I don’t have to tell anyone about this,” said Umesh Yadav.
Umesh also lost his place in the Indian team. He was last represented during the 2023 World Test Championship final against Australia. He made his last appearance for Vidarbha in November last year.
