In the pursuit of NFL history, the superstars believe the team is overlooked
All eyes were on the Kansas City Chiefs heading into this 2024 NFL season.
Back-to-back Super Bowl winners. More stars on the roster than the game itself. After all, NFL history is on the line as potentially the first team to win three straight Super Bowls.
The pressure was too great for this Kansas City team, but when the regular season ended, the Chiefs came out as the No. 1 seed in the AFC, holding the best record in the NFL at 15-2.

But throughout the season, there were many fans who scoffed at the streak of wins, how close the wins were, and the widespread use of the “refs were on their side” conspiracy theory that diminished the team’s success.
So, as the Chiefs prepare for this week’s divisional matchup against the Houston Texans, Fox News Digital wondered what the players themselves thought about their regular season under so much pressure and scrutiny, though the record ultimately speaks for itself.
What is overlooked by this group?
Super Bowl Licks Odds: Lions Favorite To Win It All; Ravens, Bills up
“I would call this team’s resilience,” three-time Pro Bowl center Creed Humphrey told Fox News Digital, discussing his role alongside teammates Chris Jones and Xavier Worthy in the Doritos ‘Super Bowl Super Bowl’ ad campaign. “Fighting close games, one-point games, two-minute drives to win games. Defense stops to win games. All those situations where we showed up and played our best ball. That comes with the work you’ve done in the offseason, in training camp, all that stuff.
“That resilience you build in those dog days of camp and stuff. It’s shown week in and week out for us, and it’s something we practice a lot — those critical situations. I’m glad we were able to step it up.”
Jones, the Chiefs’ defensive captain and defensive end, agreed wholeheartedly with Humphrey, especially since the injury bug forced them to add more during the offseason.
“A lot of players go down, a lot of important players go down in the offseason,” Jones said of Rushie Rice, Marquise “Hollywood” Brown and Isiah Pacheco.
“We’ve been able to fix it and continue to build, and that’s not an easy task. When your best wide receiver goes down, your starting running back goes down. There’s a lot of factors that can play into that. We’ve got it. We’ve been able to continue to build, and we’ve had a lot of problems this season.”
One of those players is the Chiefs’ first-round draft pick, who set a new NFL Scouting Combine record in the 40-yard dash. Worthy’s speed has been a tool for head coach Andy Reid’s offense, and although it took some time to acclimate to the NFL, his chemistry with star quarterback Patrick Mahomes has gotten better in the week leading into this latest playoff game.
Fighting problems in the NFL, especially when a key player goes down, means the next guy has to step up. Worthy is ready to continue building off of a successful regular season.
“I just want to be myself,” Worthy said of his first playoff run. “Continue to build and grow as a player in this league. That’s the biggest thing, I feel, is when guys get in trouble[when]they look at the end goal with their own journey. I just want to take it week in, week out and do what I do.”
2024 NFL ALL-PRO TEAM: Lamar Jackson, Jamar Chase, Justin Jefferson, more
Worthy Jones is a prime example of what Team Bosses points to: A strong character.
Character was built by winning 15 straight one-point games as Chiefs from last season. The team was the exact opposite, with viewers viewing Kansas City games negatively.
The blocked field goal against the Denver Broncos was no fluke to go undefeated. Nick Bolton didn’t know what was coming when he went down the ice on fourth-and-short against the Atlanta Falcons.
Of course, there is luck that has come the way of the leaders this season. Is Isaiah’s finger out of bounds on the last play of the game in Week 1? Yes, it was a bit of luck that went the way of the Chiefs, but that’s what happens sometimes in this crazy game.
Pressures, emissaries, and anything else that views the princes negatively will only increase as they chase history.
But these Chiefs players continue to pass the New England Patriots’ level of offensive role.
“I think knowing that everybody is on us gives us a competitive edge. Knowing that nobody wants us to win,” Jones said. “….To me personally, it seems like it makes us feel like we’re against the world, so we’re on the side of everyone else.”
Helping Doritos change fans’ lives for Super Bowl leaks
While Super Bowl commercials are always a highlight of the “Big Game,” Jones, Humphrey and Worthy can agree that they don’t want to see them until they air. I mean, they were playing for the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
But these bosses got to see some fan-created ads as part of Doritos’ epic Crash Super Bowl campaign, a competition that challenges fans to outdo the advertisers because millions believe they can.
These bosses previewed the semi-finalists, including the three ads shortlisted for this finalist. 1 million dollar competition.

“There were actually a lot of commercials that I absolutely enjoyed … I think they all had their own unique character about it,” Jones said. “It was a fun environment where we were able to pick them out as a team, laugh at them, critique each one of them. But we felt very involved in the process.”
Humphrey added, “Everybody in the room loves different parts of each commercial, so that’s the best part. The fans have done a great job doing these commercials this year.”
