IIT dropout Shark Tank India shocks 4 judges with just Rs 4,000; “You are a bad entrepreneur,” Aman Gupta said.
Recently on Shark Tank India Season 4, Ayush Chauhan, the young entrepreneur and co-founder of Dabby Technologies, took the stage to pitch his invention.
Ayush, who dropped out of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), said his job was to buy and sell used game consoles and accessories online. Seeking Rs 75 lakh for 2.2% equity, Ayush valued his company at Rs 34.09 crore.
He also convinced two of his teammates to join him, but when the business failed to take off, a conflict arose between him and his co-founders, forcing Ayush to buy their stake. He stated that he has taken debt to do this and added that he is operating at a loss.
Responding to OOO’s Ritesh Agarwal, who was the judge on the stage, Ayush said that only Rs 4,000 was left in his personal bank account and he had not taken salary for over a year.
He said that he has already raised about 2 million birr in financial support, but he is burning around 5 million birr per month. Out of this, he pays 3.5 thousand rupees as salary to his 16 employees and the rest is 15 million birr. Asked how Ayush survives, his father gives him pocket money of Rs 30,000 every month.
Despite the challenges, Ayush’s determination surprised everyone, including Namitha Thapar, who turned to Riteish Agarwal and said, “Riteish reminds me of you.”
This reminded Ritesh of his old days. “I was living in Barsati. I couldn’t tell my parents because they would call me at home,” he said.
However, Aman Gupta is bold in his assessment. “You have made many mistakes. You dropped out of IIT, got your friends to drop out of IIT, took money from your parents, raised money from investors. I would be wrong to call you a good entrepreneur,” he said. “You are not a good entrepreneur. You weren’t made for this. My advice to you, don’t trade.
