Huawei to provide AI support to China Aviation, Steel Corp.

Chinese telecommunications gear giant Huawei Technologies has partnered with industrial conglomerate Fangda Group Industrial to use digital and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in cooperation with the metallurgical and aviation industries.

Huawei on Friday signed strategic partnership agreements with Hainan Airlines Holding and Fangda Special Steel Technology, both owned by Fangda Group. The collaboration will focus on smart transformation, experimental applications of AI large language models (LLM), low-altitude economy and other areas, according to a company statement.

The Huawei-Fangda deal comes as the Shenzhen-based tech giant is expanding its footprint in traditional industries to empower traditional Chinese businesses with AI and communications technologies.

Fangda Chairman Fang Wei said the company hopes to further expand its cooperation with Huawei into the pharmaceutical business based on “long-term and deep cooperation” in aviation and steel.

Although the aviation and steel divisions under Fangda are very different industries, both have a fundamental interest in developing AI and big data technologies, Huawei cloud chief Zhang Pinga said in a statement.

Privately held Huawei did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Monday.

In a separate statement issued by Fangda Special Steel, the company will work with Huawei to build a steel industry model and address the challenges of implementing LMM in the industry.

The partnership will “enhance the deeper integration of digital technology with the company’s core steel business operations” and enhance the company’s digitization level and market competitiveness, Fangda Special Steel said.
