Hirono rips into Burgum’s opening confirmation hearing question: ‘This woman has a problem.’
Hawaii Democrat Sen. Mazie Hirono faced mockery on social media Thursday for opening questions from Secretary of the Interior nominee Dow Burgum during his confirmation hearing.
“As part of my responsibility to ensure the qualifications of nominees before the committees I sit on, I ask the following two initial questions,” Hirono told Burgum on Thursday. “Have you ever made an unsolicited request for sexual favors or engaged in any verbal or physical harassment or assault of a sexual nature since you first became a legal professional?”
“No, Senator, I haven’t,” Bergham replied.
“Have you ever been disciplined for this kind of behavior?” Hirono asked.

“I don’t have any,” he said curtly.
Hirono, who has asked similar opening questions to several other candidates in the past, including Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and attorney general candidate Pam Bondi, was widely panned by conservatives on social media for her line of questioning.
