Arun Lal supports Gautam Gambhir
In a chat with RevSportz, Arun Lal was asked whether India needs a different coach for Test cricket after India’s recent disappointing performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Lal believes that Gautam Gambhir should be given some time and the coach cannot be judged after the team’s performance. He reminded the audience of Gambhir’s red-ball career and called him a national hero.
“I don’t think so. You can’t judge a coach by results alone. It’s commitment, it’s drive, it’s man management, how he handles it, if he’s winning one-day cricket and losing the red ball. Cricket, it’s not that he doesn’t know how to coach,” Lal said.
“He has played red-ball cricket like anybody else. He is a national hero. So give him (some) time, (a) turbulent start, no doubt. His style is very different from others. It’s not like you put faith in him, then give him enough time to perform. .

Arun Lal on India’s recent Test defeats
Arun Lal also spoke about India’s recent performances in Test cricket. He felt that India made some mistakes during the home Test series and also raised questions about the team’s ultra-aggressive batting strategy which led to their downfall.
“Strategically, the team made some mistakes against New Zealand. We really want to get to the WTC final. We want to win at any cost. In the five-day game in India, we were mentally the better team than any team we played,” Lal scored..
“But if you’re trying to win in three days, you’re narrowing the gap between the favorite and the pretender. I think we made a mistake, but we all learn from our mistakes,” he said.
India under coach Gautam Gambhir’s tenure
