‘He asked me to pay $3,000’, software engineer recalls dangerous job interview in Delhi
Job interviews can be nerve wracking for many job seekers because of questions related to compensation or perhaps some awkward questions about the long gap between two job opportunities.
For this one job seeker, a job interview was enough to make him realize that the world is very cruel. According to a Reddit post, this job seeker had a scary experience when he was a fresh graduate in Delhi’s Kirti Nagar and was just starting his job hunt.
“I got a call from a consulting firm saying they would hire and help me with top companies through a third-party agency. They told me the interview was in Kirti Nagar, so I went there, but when I arrived, the building looked shady.”
He said African guards were stationed outside the building. When the user asks one of them where the interview is, he is told to enter the HR waiting area.
“I walked into the room, and a woman in her mid-30s greeted me. She said she had connections with top companies and showed me fake pictures of candidates through her at Microsoft. She asked me about my skills and when she mentioned Java, she started asking me questions.
The job seeker intentionally gave wrong answers to screen HR. When the latter told her he was doing well, he knew something was off because she had no knowledge of Java. Then she asked him to pay 3,000 birr.
“Then she asked me to pay her 3,000 rupees. I was desperate to leave but I noticed there was a courier standing near the door and a lot of people. I only had a 500 rupee note and handed it over. I had to go outside to get the rest of the money.”
Although he manages to convince the manpower, the guard follows him down. The guard couldn’t follow him on the public road, so he ran as fast as he could out of the building and took the subway.
“It was such a frustrating experience. I had traveled a long way for that interview, because I was struggling to get a call beforehand. This scam made me feel even more failed and defeated at the time. It’s sad that these scammers are out there. Against innocent people,” he wrote.
