House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., on Tuesday criticized the protections for women and girls in the Sports Act, citing a post on Bluesky that made unproven claims that the law “will unleash horrific child predators on girls and young women.”

“The House Republican Child Predator Empowerment Act does not promote fairness and safety in sports. It exposes the horrors of child predators to girls and young women across America. It is unacceptable.” Jeffries wrote.

When asked for comment by Fox News Digital, Jeffries’ office did not elaborate on how the law would do this.

“The post speaks for itself,” a spokesperson for Jeffries’ office told Fox News Digital when asked for an explanation for the comments.

The proposed Women and Girls in Sports Protection Act was sponsored by Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., and Rep. Greg Stube, R-Fla. , it was presented again in the House, where it will be voted on Tuesday.

This bill generally prohibits school athletic programs from allowing individuals whose biological sex is male at birth to participate in programs designed for girls or women.

Specifically, the bill would make it a violation of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 for federally funded educational programs or activities to conduct athletic programs or activities that allow males to participate in the programs or activities. assigned to women or girls.

According to the account Sex depends on an individual’s reproductive biology and genetics.

The bill is only one page long and explains that “it shall not be a violation for men to practice in an athletic program or activity designed for women or for women, so long as no woman is denied a place to enroll in a team or sport, the opportunity to participate in a practice or competition, a scholarship, admission to an educational institution, or an athletic program.” Any other benefit associated with the tax or participation in the activity.

Currently, 25 states have their own similar state laws to prevent trans athletes from competing against girls and women.

Jeffries isn’t the only prominent Democrat to call the protections for women and girls in the Sports Act child-predator-enforcement legislation.

Rep. Pete Aguilar, D-Calif., spoke out against the bill at a press conference on Tuesday. Aguilar pointed out that the law’s failure to set an age limit for women’s sports “increases the risks to inspections and individuals.”

How the transition in sports changed the 2024 election and stirred the national culture

“The most offensive thing about the law is that it doesn’t distinguish between girls’ sports at what age. It doesn’t distinguish whether you’re an Olympic athlete, an NCAA player, a high school athlete under the control of your state. I’m a 4-year-old or a 5-year-old down the street playing soccer,” Aguilar said. He said.

“It can lead to scrutiny and it can cause individuals to raise concerns. And how you proceed is something that the House Democratic caucus is concerned with. And that’s why, you know, we felt that this was the GOP’s child predator empowerment.”

Jeffries and Aguilar each previously sponsored legislation that would allow trans athletes to compete in women’s and women’s sports — the Equality Act.

That bill “amends federal education laws to ensure that students are protected from discrimination based on gender, including gender identity and gender characteristics, and guarantees students the right to participate in sports on teams and programs consistent with their gender identity.”

However, Democrats’ push for trans inclusion in women’s sports has become a party-wide vulnerability in the recent election cycle.

A National exit poll A survey conducted by the CWA Legislative Committee found that 70% of moderate voters considered the issue of “Donald Trump’s opposition to transgender men and women playing women’s and women’s sports and transgender men and men using women’s and women’s bathrooms” important to them. .

And 6% said it was the most important issue of all, while 44% said it was “very important.”

In June, a survey Conducted by NORC at the University of Chicago They asked respondents to weigh in on whether transgender athletes of both sexes should be allowed to participate in sports leagues that match their preferred gender identity rather than their biological sex.

65 percent answered that it should never or should not be allowed. When respondents were specifically asked about professional female athletes competing in women’s sports teams, 69% were against it.

Several Democrats have publicly backed off their support for trans inclusion, including Rep. Seth Moulton, D-Mass., Rep. Colleen Allred, D-Texas, and Rep. Tom Suozzi, D-N.Y.

Biden’s Department of Education was forced to introduce legislation in December to ban trans inclusion.
