The election of President-elect Donald Trump Defense Department head Pete Hegsett faced backlash in the Senate on Tuesday as lawmakers decide whether to vote to support his nominee.

Hegseth faced intense questioning from Democrats at the House Armed Services Committee hearing, including about comments he made about women previously serving in combat roles in the military, and was interrupted at times by protesters who disrupted the hearing.

Days after Trump won the decisive election over Vice President Harris, he nominated Heigt in November, praising him as “a warrior for the military and the nation.”
