After a complete turnaround at the University of Colorado football program, there seems to be some smoke that Deion Sanders might be headed to the NFL.

But even though the idea of continued family matters seems appealing, one NFL great said there’s a good reason Sanders would prefer to stay in college.

Simply put, Vince Wilfork thinks college kids need Coach Prime more than professional athletes.

“It’s more important for college because it can touch a lot of young kids,” Wilfork said in a recent interview with Fox News Digital. “Everyone has their own dreams, but from the outside looking in, a guy who makes millions of dollars can touch more lives and you can’t connect with him. You can get to this point under his leadership.

“What he stands for can help those young people. I’d rather see him help the kids, because they need them more than the million-dollar guys. I just see him as a drag at this level.”

Sanders’ first coaching gig came with Jackson State, and once he got the Colorado job, several players followed, including his sons and Travis Hunter, who became this year’s two-way All-Star winner of the Heisman Trophy. Hunter, too, would likely be a top-five pick at quarterback.

When Hunter won the Heisman, he cried on his shoulder and shared a long hug with his coach.
