Fans are running for the hotly awaited ‘Romantasi’ sequel
Fans lined up for Onyx’s storm at one of the year’s premier events.
Onyx Storm is the third novel in the Yaros Imperian series, set in a world of dragons, magic, war, and steamy romance.
Publisher Little Brown said it would be the company’s biggest pre-order title since releasing the Harry Potter game script in 2016.
Around 60 Waterstones branches held special events – opening at midnight on Monday or early on Tuesday – and the chain said the book “could completely cover first day sales” for the past quarter.
Stores have exclusive openings around the world, including in the US and Australia.
Some eager readers in the US waited until 3am for the special edition to be released online from Target – but many long-timers complained on social media that the store’s website couldn’t cope with the demand.
Rebecca West, Jr., editor of Brown’s Piactus imprint; He told the Telegraph.“This level of fan dedication hasn’t been seen since Harry Potter.”
“1. It’s in your hands now. 2. Thank you for sharing this amazing experience with me. 3. Enjoy the ride,” Yaros wrote in a message to fans on Instagram.
“Chapter one and now I’m dying,” replied one reader, while another said, “Thank you for sharing this wonderful world with us!!! And someone else asked: “Is it bad that I’m so close to giving up work to read?”
Magical and cruel world
American author Yaros is one of the biggest names in the “romance” genre.
In anticipation of Onyx Storm’s release, the first two Imperium books, Fourth Wing and Iron Flame, returned to the top two spots on the New York Times Fiction Best Sellers list.
They are also currently in the top five of the Sunday Times paperback novel chart in the UK, and were the two most read books worldwide last year. Among Goodreads users.
The Fourth Wing introduces its 20-year-old heroine, Violet Sorngeil, an elite dragon rider pushed into brutal training.
Like the author, Violet has a genetic disease that means the character sprains joints and breaks bones easily – so she must use her will and inner strength to help her survive.
She is also involved in a relationship with Xaden Riorson, a candidate from a rival family.
Iron Flame is set during Violet’s second year at Basgiat War College, and in Onyx Storm, according to the publisher, “the war has truly begun” because “she knows there is no more time for lessons.”
