Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk may request an office space in the White House as he prepares to lead the newly created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), according to a new report.

Musk will likely occupy a position in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building next to the West Wing, the highest level of White House staff space. The New York Times reported.

Musk and transition officials have talked about what Musk will look like after President-elect Trump’s inauguration, but concrete plans are pending, according to the outlet, which typically requires a special pass to visit the West Wing freely.

Musk is co-chairing DOGE with tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy as they target ways to eliminate government spending, waste and streamline operations. However, Ramaswamy is not sure if he will take the White House office, the newspaper reported.

DOGE is not part of the federal government, but is a blue-ribbon committee that recommends executive orders to the Trump administration and works with the Office of Management and Budget to make reforms.

Doge’s goal is to cut government programs and the federal workforce in an effort to cut $2 trillion from the federal budget.

However, Musk recently raised doubts about the possibility of removing $2 trillion from the federal budget, and there is a better chance of cutting $1 trillion.

“I think we’ll try at $2 trillion. I think that’s the best outcome,” Musk said. Last week at the technology trade show CES in Las Vegas. “But I think you have to have a certain amount of moderation. I think if we try for $2 trillion, we’ve got a good shot at getting $1 (trillion).”

The Washington Post reported this month that aides to Musk and Ramaswamy have begun interviewing with government agencies including DOGE, the Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service, as well as the Departments of Veterans Affairs, Homeland Security, and Health and Human Services.

About 50 people are part of the DOGE team, which is looking to expand to about 100 employees by graduation. The Washington Post reports that these employees are working out of SpaceX’s offices in Washington, DC.

Those close to Musk, who donated millions of dollars to Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, said he was still deciding whether Doge would take on the leadership role as a special civil servant and file financial disclosure forms as a result. The York Times reported.

But if Musk chooses to give up his special government employee status, certain restrictions may apply, such as requesting public meetings and sharing DOGE documents with the public, according to the release.

Outside Box Ventures, a company founded last year by journalist-turned-investment banker Catherine Tarbox and French ambassador to the U.S. Laurent Billy, is sponsoring the dinner.

“This meeting represents more than a discussion. We hope it marks a new chapter in public-private collaboration to harness the transformative power of technology for the nation’s future,” a source close to the plan told Fox News Digital.
