‘Desperate attempt’: Senators accept affidavit on Heggett’s ex-marriage allegations
Democratic senators on the Armed Services Committee are investigating claims that Pete Hegseth, the defense secretary, made his second wife fear for her safety.
Fox News obtained an affidavit from Danielle Hegseth, Hegs’ ex-sister, who said he had an alcohol abuse problem that at times made his ex-wife Samantha fear for her safety. Danielle Hegseth married Pete Hegseth’s brother. She is not Samantha’s sister, Pete Hegseth’s second wife.
The Senate Armed Services Committee has been sworn in, and members are investigating.

Pete Hughes’ attorney, Tim Parlatore, told Fox News in a statement: “Sam has never been abused in any way.” She signed court documents saying no abuse took place and confirmed the same in a recent FBI interview. Daniels’ claims that Dietrich, an anti-Trump, far-left Democrat who is divorced from Mr. Hegseth’s brother and has never gotten along with the Hegseth family, have done nothing to change that.
“After a difficult divorce, Mrs. Dietrich had an ax to grind against the entire Hegseth family. Mrs. Dietrich claims she saw nothing but is now falsely accusing Sam of lying to the court and the FBI for personal and undocumented reasons. The statements she allegedly made 10 years ago.
Danielle Hegseth offers a story on the documentary, recalling that Samantha once hid in her husband’s closet.

Danielle Hegseth, however, said that she did not experience physical or sexual abuse from Pete Samantha.
The affidavit provided additional stories about Hegseth’s heavy drinking, citing various occasions, including one at the Reconciliation Club.
In the document, Danielle Hegseth said her former father-in-law was unfit to be secretary of defense.
A senior member of the committee, Jack Reed, DR.I. In a statement, he said, “As I have said for months, Mr. Hegseth must undergo a comprehensive background check regarding reports of alleged sexual assault, alcoholism and public misconduct. I was concerned that the background check process was inadequate, and this affidavit confirms my fears.
“The alleged misconduct and misconduct by Mr Hegseth is appalling. This behavior would disqualify any member of staff from holding any leadership position in the armed forces, much less being confirmed as Secretary of Defence.”
Samantha Hegseth denied any physical abuse in a statement first reported by NBC News.
“There was no physical abuse in my marriage. That’s the only additional statement I can make to you. I will let you know that I will not and will not talk about my marriage to Pete. Please respect this decision,” she reportedly said. he said.

Sen. Jackie Rosen, D-Nev., who is on the committee, told reporters, “It just tells us more about Mr. Hegseth’s character and the way he lived his life and his views on women.”
“So, we’ll let the Republicans make their own statement, but I think we know he’s 100% unqualified for the job, his character, his behavior, the issues we’ve had with sexual misconduct and financial issues. Mismanagement,” she said.
Another member of the committee, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., told reporters: “I’m telling you, there’s a great deal in this oath, and no party will reject a nominee to lead our military.”

However, Republicans on the committee are unlikely to be swayed by the allegations.
New Sen. Tim Sheehy, R-Mont., who sits on the committee, wrote in X: “This is a desperate last-minute attempt by Dems and the media to smear Pete Hegseth and tank his candidacy.” Pete’s ex-wife is on record as saying the claims are false, but the media doesn’t care because no one should fall for this.
