Coast Guard to ‘add assets’ to US Gulf, other areas
The U.S. Coast Guard announced the deployment of personnel and equipment to various maritime borders in the United States on Tuesday, a day after President Donald Trump fired the head of the military branch.
In a statement, Coast Guard Acting Commander Adm. Kevin Lunday of the Coast Guard said: It works to detect and prevent illegal immigration in support of Trump’s executive orders issued this week.
“The U.S. Coast Guard is the world’s premier maritime law enforcement agency, critical to protecting America’s maritime borders, territorial integrity and sovereignty,” Lundey said. “By the President’s executive order, I have directed my commanding officers to immediately increase assets — cutters, aircraft, boats and deployable special forces — to increase Coast Guard presence and focus.”

The key areas where authorities are focusing their efforts are the waters off Florida and the maritime borders around Alaska, Hawaii, and the US territories of Guam, Puerto Rico, American Samoa and the US Virgin Islands to prevent and prevent the entry of migrants from Haiti and Cuba into the US.
Lunday wrote in the release that the agency is targeting “the maritime border between Texas and Mexico in the Gulf of Mexico.”
On Monday, Trump signed an executive order naming the Gulf of Mexico. in the Federal Executive Order: “Restoring Names That Honor America’s Greatness” Section 4 “The area formerly known as the Gulf of Mexico… once a vital asset to our growing nation… and an indelible part of America” - is called the “Gulf of America.”
The reference appears to be the first time a federal agency has undergone a name change.
The Coast Guard said it would target the Bahamas and South Florida, as well as the Pacific Ocean between the US and Mexico.
In addition, the Coast Guard supports U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials along the southwestern United States border.
“Working with our colleagues at the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Defense, we will detect and prevent illegal immigration, drug trafficking, and other terrorist or hate crimes before they reach our borders,” the news release said.
