Longtime Democratic Party power player and former Senate Majority Leader Senator Chuck Schumer has played a significant role behind the scenes in persuading President Biden to drop out of the presidential race.

“If you run and you lose to Trump and we lose in the Senate and we can’t take back the House, 50 years of wonderful and beautiful work goes out the window,” Schumer told Biden in a private speech to the president. Rehobeth Beach House, The New York Times reported. But worse – he will go down as one of the darkest figures in American history.

“If I were you,” Schumer told the president, “I wouldn’t run, and I’m urging you not to.”

After Biden’s disastrous debate performance against President-elect Donald Trump in late June, Democratic Party heavyweights such as Schumer and others began discussing his future campaign with Biden. Schumer spoke directly to donors, telling them to wait and see what Biden would do.

But secretly, Schumer was urging donors and allies to keep quiet about concerns about Biden’s age and ability to finish the campaign, the Times reported.

“Don’t be blunt,” Schumer said. “That will get his back, and you have to let the dust settle. But if you can, call someone you know in the campaign. Call the White House.”

“We don’t have information right now,” Jeffries told allies in the final months of the campaign, according to the Times. “But the most powerful narrative in American politics is change. Vice President Harris represents change.”

Some of Biden’s supporters, including Steve Ritchie, an adviser to the president, continue to defend his ability to serve as president and the Democratic nominee.

“We can get through it,” Ricchetti said, according to the Times. “We think our partners on the hill are wrong.”

President Biden has been given a chance by several senior leaders in the Democratic Party to drop out of the 2024 presidential race in favor of Vice President Kamala Harris as the party’s presidential nominee.

In the months since Biden announced his withdrawal from the presidential race, The New York Times, Wall Street Journal and other media outlets have reported that advisers close to the president have long been concerned about Biden’s health and energy.

As a The Times report As of December: “(Biden) seems a little older and a little slower with each passing day. His aides have said he’s much sharper in the situation department, calling on world leaders to negotiate a cease-fire in Lebanon or confronting the Syrian uprising, but insisting he can handle the world’s most stressful job for another four years. It is easy to imagine that he was thinking something.
