The Chicago Police Department said Monday that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ISA) will not help with deportations around the Windy City as President Trump plans to impose border security policies across the country.

President Trump returned to the White House on Monday and unveiled a plan to address illegal immigration and a weakened border area during his inauguration.

“First, I’m declaring a national emergency on our southern border,” Trump added. “All illegal immigration will stop immediately, and we will begin the process of returning millions and millions of criminals to where they came from.” “The 2010 I direct our government to use it by repealing the Foreign Enemies Act of 1798, and declare that it will “remove and deport and send troops to the southern border to resist the tyrannical invasion of our country.” Full and supreme powers of federal and state law enforcement to eliminate all foreign criminals and criminal networks, bringing devastating crime to our cities and inner cities.

But while President Trump has promised to deport dangerous illegal immigrants and send them back to their countries, Chicago officials have made promises of their own not to do so.

The mayor of Chicago reiterated his opposition to the Trump administration’s upcoming immigration reform.

Chicago police said the city’s ordinance includes a provision that would prevent federal immigration officials from assisting with enforcement based on immigration status. The department also said it does not record immigration status or share individuals’ immigration status with federal officials.

If an immigration agency requests assistance in a civil immigration enforcement operation, the city ordinance requires the supervisor to respond to the scene.

If the request helps to enforce the civil immigration law, the supervisor will reject the request, but if it is not related to the civil immigration law, the supervisor will take the appropriate police action.

A statement from the police department said, “In accordance with Chicago Municipal Code, the Chicago Police Department does not assist or interfere with civil immigration enforcement.” “As always, regardless of the citizenship status of those involved, we will continue to enforce the law if a crime occurs.”

The police department released the statement a day after Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson doubled down on his pledge to oppose Trump’s sweeping reform aimed at removing dangerous illegal immigrants from the U.S. with criminal convictions upon his return to office.

The mayor’s office confirmed the city will continue to comply with the 2017 Illinois Trust Act, which prohibits local law enforcement from participating in federal immigration enforcement.
