Boomer Esiason sparked a conversation on WFAN Sports Radio on Thursday.

“To be honest with you, I’m thankful they don’t have the No. 1 pick,” Esiason said. “I don’t want one of those quarterbacks in New York.”

On Sunday, the Giants’ 45-33 win over the Indianapolis Colts dropped them from the coveted top spot in the draft order to fourth. While many fans see it as a missed opportunity to pick top quarterback prospects, Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward, Essien sees a different path forward.

Instead of banking on an unproven rookie QB, he offered an alternative strategy.

“If I were a team that needed a coach and a quarterback — not named the New York Jets — wouldn’t it make sense if someone hired Brian Flores and brought in Sam Darnold?” ACS said.

The veteran analyst believes these duos could change the Giants’ struggling offense.

“If the (Giants) have the guts to sign Brian Flores as their head coach, Sam Darnold as their quarterback and Ty Higgins as a free agent … it’s a different Sam,” Eccison said. “He’s a different person.”

The Giants’ surprise win over the Colts didn’t just affect their draft position. It followed a franchise-record 10-game losing streak and prevented them from becoming the first NFL team to go 0-9 at home in a season.

New York wide receiver Darius Slayton defended the team’s competitive spirit.

“We’re obviously not tanking,” Slayton said after the game. “Like anything, we’ve got work to do.” This is not basketball, not golf, not tennis. Football, you hit. I don’t go there and just let people touch me. To the tank.”

The win showed offensive potential, with Drew Lock throwing for 309 yards and four touchdowns. Rookie WR Malik Nabers shined on seven catches for 171 yards and two TDs.

“It was a lot of fun,” Locke said after the game. “We’ve been clicking, we know we have it in us, it’s time to go out and show up and do it.”

With one game remaining against the Philadelphia Eagles, the Giants face a crossroads. They can either win and fall further in the draft order, or lose and fall back to the top two picks.
