A shocking new report from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) shows that homelessness has risen sharply since the start of Joe Biden’s presidency, another sign of the president’s impressive record of failure.

Every year since 2007, HUD has published data providing official estimates of homelessness. The data seeks to show how many people are homeless in the U.S. each year in January, as well as provide researchers with a variety of demographic data and reports from ground sources about possible causes of homelessness.

In December, HUD reported that by January 2024, “771,480 people will experience homelessness in the United States.” HUD says this is “the largest number since data collection began.” (The first year of data provided in the HUD report is 2007.)

The left’s homeless schemes have destroyed our cities. Now help can come from an unexpected source.

In the year In 2023, HUD reports that homelessness will reach 653,104, the highest number on record at the time.

HUD data shows homelessness was 580,466 at the start of 2020, Trump’s final year in office. (Due to Covid-19, 2021 data is incomplete.)

That means homelessness has increased by more than 32 percent from 2020 to 2024.

These figures become even more puzzling when placed in their proper historical context. From 2013 to 2022, HUD’s homelessness estimate never once exceeded 600,000.

For the eight years before Biden took office, homelessness had been stable, consistently hovering between 500,000 and 600,000.

According to the HUD report, men and boys are more likely to be homeless than women. Six out of ten homeless Americans are male.

Additionally, African Americans and white Americans are more likely to be homeless than other racial groups. About 31% of the homeless population is believed to be African American, while 38% of the homeless population is white.

These figures indicate that when accounting for overall population disparities across racial groups in the United States, African American males are more likely to be homeless than other demographics.

There are several reasons why homelessness has increased under the Biden administration, and most of them are a direct result of policy decisions made during his presidency.

First, housing prices have risen sharply under Biden. The Washington Post reports that monthly rents will increase by 19 percent from 2019 to 2024.

Similarly, the median sales price of a home in the United States increased from $396,900 in the fourth quarter of 2020 to $501,100 in the third quarter of 2024, the most recent year for which data is available. This represents a 26 percent increase in just four years.

Although rents and home sales prices are influenced by many factors, the driving force behind the increases is the macro-level inflation created by the Biden administration’s unprecedented government spending and deregulation agenda.

Biden and congressional Democrats have pumped trillions of dollars into the economy during Biden’s tenure, spending levels far higher than before the pandemic. The additional spending was mostly the result of new debt is not Compensation with new taxes. That means Biden has increased his funding by working closely with congressional Democrats.

Increasing the money supply is not always a bad thing. But when you increase the money supply quickly and consistently, like Biden, and couple that with inflationary government programs and regulations, you run the risk of inflation.

That is what has happened to most of the US economy, including the housing sector.

Adding more dollars to the economy without increasing housing prices at the same rate has caused housing and rental prices to rise faster.

When housing prices increase, homelessness often increases.

Housing costs are not the only explanation for rising homelessness. Another is the Biden administration’s immigration policy.

The US House Homeland Security Committee reported earlier this month that Customs and Border Protection (CBP) made more than 11 million contacts with immigrants in the country in fiscal year 2021.

This does not include the millions of people who entered the U.S. illegally during the same period but were not apprehended by CBP.

This wave of immigration was caused by the weak border and asylum policies put in place by the Biden administration. These policies and the accompanying increase in illegal immigration have placed significant stress on local resources, including housing and shelter.

In the report, HUD, the Biden administration’s own agency, acknowledged that immigration is one of the main causes of the recent rise in homelessness. HUD says natural disasters have led to an increase in homelessness in some states, particularly in Hawaii.

The HUD study includes reports submitted by local homelessness planning entities called Continuum of Care (CoCs). According to HUD, “In 2024, most of the CoCs that reported the largest increase in homelessness reported an increase from people displaced by natural disasters or migration. For example, in Hawaii, more than 5,000 people were in disaster emergency shelters due to the Maui Fire, while another 13 CoCs were refugees or asylum seekers.” They pointed out that the increase was due to the increase.

CoC told New York City’s HUD that 88% of the increase in sheltered homelessness is directly attributable to an increase in asylum seekers.

Homelessness has reached crisis levels in the United States, and Biden’s policies are largely to blame. Its high regulations and reckless spending have driven housing costs to unsustainable levels, and its immigration policies have overwhelmed many cities’ housing markets and homeless facilities.

To solve these problems, President Trump must cut government spending, roll back regulations, and fix America’s broken immigration system. He promised to do this, but as the incoming president knows very well, managing is more difficult than campaigning.
