Billionaire Bill Gates has detailed the dinner he had with President-elect Trump that left him ‘amazed’.

Billionaire Bill Gates recently hinted at his personal meeting with President Donald Trump and the nearly three-hour dinner he had, saying he “surprised me.” In the year Gates, who has backed Trump’s opponent, Vice President Harris, in the 2024 election, apparently walked away from the dinner with optimism about the president-elect.

“I had the privilege of having a long and very pleasant dinner with him two weeks ago.” Gates told the Wall Street Journal..

In the interview, Gates detailed the “extensive” dinner conversation, saying he spoke with Trump about public health, a major focus of Gates’ philanthropic efforts.

“I felt like he was full of energy and eager to help drive innovation,” Gates told the WSJ.

Gates’ dinner with Trump comes as a growing number of billionaires and tech leaders flock to meet the president-elect ahead of his historic return to the White House. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos dined with Trump at Mar-a-Lago and pledged $1 million to the president-elect’s founding fund. Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta platform has committed $1 million to the fund.

The WSJ reported that Zuckerberg’s salary promise came before he met Trump at a Mar-a-Lago dinner in November following the Republican presidential victory, citing people familiar with the conversation.

On the way out at the dinner, Zuckerberg presented Trump with the company’s latest innovation — Ray Ban smart glasses — and gave them to Trump.

Bezos, who traveled to Trump’s home state of Florida, said at the dinner that he was “very optimistic” about the incoming administration. Trump also dismissed concerns about his relationship with Elon Musk.

“Elon has made it clear that he’s doing this for the public good, not for his own personal gain, and I take that at face value,” Bezos told Reuters, referring to the SpaceX CEO.

Trump’s relationship with billionaires and tech moguls has changed dramatically since 2020, when he was banned from many social media platforms. In October, Gates reportedly said privately that Harris, the nonprofit’s vice president, had given about $50 million.

Zuckerberg also announced the end of Meta’s controversial fact-checking policy in a push to restore “freedom of expression on Facebook and Instagram.” Zuckerberg in Trump’s 2016 He admitted that the checks introduced after the 2016 victory “destroy more confidence than they created”. The company said it made good faith attempts to “address concerns” about misinformation, but its policies led to “a lot of censorship.”
