Bears brass engaged in potential trade talks for Steelers coach Mike Tomlin: report
Matt Eberfuss was relieved of his head coaching duties in November, a day after the Chicago Bears were heavily criticized for poor clock management in a 23-20 loss to the Detroit Lions.
Eberfloss’ nearly three-year stint in the Windy City ended with a six-game losing streak in the final seconds. Thomas Brown became the interim head coach.
The Bears are currently searching for the franchise’s next head coach and have already interviewed several candidates as general manager Ryan Pauls vowed to cast a wide net during the search.
However, according to a new report from ESPN, one of the ways the team has explored filling the head coaching position is to acquire Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin in a trade.

The Bears recently contacted the Steelers to talk to the Super Bowl-winning coach and possibly inquire about a trade, according to the report. The Steelers declined the offer, sources told ESPN.
Talks don’t believe it reached Tomlin, who responded to questions about potential trade offers from other teams, saying “save your time.” Tomlin’s contract reportedly includes a no-trade clause.

The Steelers finished the regular season with a 10-7 record, keeping Tomlin’s streak of never having a sub-.500 record. However, the team ended the season with a four game losing streak.
Pittsburgh was then eliminated in the wild-card round by the Baltimore Ravens. It has been eight years since the Steelers won a playoff game.
Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson is believed to be one of the most sought-after candidates this recruiting cycle. The Bears announced them earlier this week He interviewed Johnson.
They also interviewed Arthur Smith, Brian Flores, Mike McCarthy, former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll and many others.
Despite finishing the season with a 5-12 record, Chicago’s roster is loaded with talent at key positions. The Bears’ next head coach is expected to develop quarterback Caleb Williams, the top pick in the 2024 NFL draft. The coaching staff will have the opportunity to work with wide receivers Rom Odunze and DJ Moore.
Elsewhere, linebacker Tremaine Edmonds is a two-time Pro Bowler, and Jaylon Johnson is a talented cornerback.
