India’s newly appointed T20I vice-captain Axar Patel has said he has no idea about any changes in the support staff ahead of the five-match T20I series against England. The Indian pacer was speaking to the media before the series opener when asked about the support staff.

Team India’s support staff is under scrutiny following the team’s poor performance in the last two Test series. India lost the home Test series against New Zealand 3-0. It ended India’s home unbeaten run till the 2012/13 season.

In 2017, India won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the first time, losing to New Zealand, losing 3-1 to Australia. in a row.

The support team found itself in the firing line during the team’s activities against New Zealand and Australia. According to recent reports, BCCI has decided to make a new addition to the support staff. Former Saurashtra star Sitanshu Kottak has been signed up as the batting coach for the series against England.

Although the BCCI is yet to formalize the announcement, Kotak was spotted at the Eden Gardens, where the Indian team is training ahead of the first T20I. And when asked about the support staff, Axar Patel said:

“Regarding the support staff, I haven’t been with the team for the last three months so I don’t know what happened in Australia, but here the support staff is the same and we have been talking about what we want to do in the matches.”

When Kotak was added to the support staff, the BCCI decided not to sack another member. Gautam Gambhir is the head coach of the team while Abhishek Nayar and Ryan Ten Doshate are the assistant coaches. On the other hand, Morne Morkel and T Dileep are the bowling and fielding coaches.

Axar Patel’s amazing travelogue

Axar Patel will look to make a big impact in the upcoming series as he looks to justify the team management and selectors’ decision to appoint him as vice-captain. Axar Patel, a regular in India’s T20I squad, played a major role in India’s T20 World Cup victory last year. He will look to make an impact with both bat and ball in the series against England.

Axar Patel said, “Being vice-captain comes with additional responsibility. Sometimes we have to take tough decisions.”

Meanwhile, it is said that the first match is going to be played next Wednesday (January 22) at Eden Gardens.
