Amazon is eliminating DEI initiatives, the latest company cutbacks
Amazon is scaling back on some of its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) programs, becoming the latest major corporation to cut back on such initiatives that critics have deemed “outrageous.”
In a message to employees last month, Amazon HR executive Candy Castleberry announced improvements to the company’s representation and inclusion efforts and said the e-commerce giant would make some changes after spending the past few years evaluating their effectiveness. “

“We worked to unify employee groups under one umbrella and build programs that are open to all,” the memo, obtained by Fox Business, reads. “Instead of individual teams building programs, we focus on programs with proven results – and aim to foster a more truly inclusive culture.”
MCDONALD’S LATEST COMPANY RETURNS ‘WKE’ DEI POLICIES TO 2025
The memo, which was first reported by Bloomberg, was released earlier on Friday, according to a report from The Information, and shows that Amazon will also soon clear black equity and LGBTQ+ rights on its “Our Position” page. website.
“We update this page from time to time to make sure it reflects the updates we’ve made to various programs and positions,” Amazon spokeswoman Kelly Nantel responded.
Amazon is the latest in a host of companies to roll back DEI initiatives over the past year, including retail behemoth Walmart, as well as Ford, Caterpillar, John Deere and Toyota. However, Amazon is more subtle in its moves than others like Meta, which announced on Friday that it would be making changes to its DEI policies.
META ends corporate DEI programs
Robbie Starbuck, an anti-activist and filmmaker who led a successful campaign to pressure companies to end DEI initiatives, said he informed Amazon managers in December that he would report their “active policies” unless changes were made.
In a post on X following the news of Amazon’s change, Starbucks threatened to expose the company’s revival later this month unless the company disclosed the changes.
