Hardik Pandya made his debut for Team India this year on Wednesday (January 22).

India’s teammates played a key role as India beat England by seven wickets to take the lead in the tournament. Asked to bat first, England put up a modest total of 132 runs. They were 74/4 at the end of the 10th over and looking to post a challenging total of over 150.

However, the Indian bowlers did not allow England to finish the series strongly and restricted them to a modest total. Captain Jos Buttler scored 68 runs off 44 balls with the help of eight fours and two sixes, making it the only fight for England.

Apart from Buttler, no other English player could even reach 20 runs. Varun Chakraborty was the pick of the bowlers for India, taking 3 wickets from 4 overs for 23 wickets. On the other hand, Hardik Pandya, Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel picked up two wickets each.

With the bat, India chased down the total in a big way. The hosts won by 3 wickets and crossed the 14th win streak. Opener Abhishek Sharma was the star with the bat as he smashed just 34 balls with the help of 79 balls with 5 fours and 8 sixes. Sanju gave Samson a start as well but was soon dismissed for 26 runs.

Hardik Pandey ahead of Jasprit Bumrah:

The two wickets in the first T20I against England helped Hardik Pandey move Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar up the list of Indian bowlers in the shorter format of the game.

Before the start of the match, Hardik Pandey was ranked fifth with 89 wickets. He was equal with Bumrah in wickets and one wicket shy of Bhuvneshwar. The two wickets took him to 91 in T20Is, ahead of Bhuvneshwar and Bumrah.

He is now ranked third behind Yuzvendra Chahal and Arshdeep. Meanwhile, Arshdeep broke Chahal’s record to become India’s all-time wicket-taker in T20Is. The left-arm pacer now has 97 wickets, one more than Chahal.
