David Moyes appointed Everton manager 11 years after leaving the club to join Manchester United Football News
Everton have confirmed the return of David Moyes as their new manager.
Sean Dyche was sacked on Thursday three hours before the Toffees’ FA Cup third-round win over Peterborough, having won just one of their last 11 games with Everton, one point above the Premier League relegation zone.
11-and-a-half years after moving to Manchester United, Moyes made his return to management at the end of last season when he left West Ham for a second spell in charge of Everton.
Sky Sports News Moyes is understood to have signed a two-and-a-half-year deal that will keep him until 2027.
The 61-year-old said he would “not hesitate” to take up the job again.
“It’s great to be back!” Moyes said. I have spent 11 wonderful and successful years at Everton and I would not hesitate to be offered the opportunity to join this great club.
“I am delighted to be working with (new owners) the Friedkin Group and look forward to helping them rebuild the club.
“We now want Goodison and all of Everton to play their part in getting behind the players in this crucial season as we move into our new stadium as a Premier League club.”
Everton chief executive Mark Watts added: “We are delighted that David is joining us at this crucial time in Everton’s history.
“With over a decade of experience at the club, he is the right leader to guide us through the final season at Goodison Park and into our new stadium. We look forward to working with David to build the foundations for a new era at Everton.”
Analysis: Moyes is a safe choice for Everton.
Sky Sports News’ Alan Mayer:
“David Moyes is a very safe choice. Changing managers in this position is a big risk. Getting someone who knows the club inside out and can hit the ground running is a big plus.
“Everton wants to save the club from danger, I think he can do that. The first aim and objective is to ensure that Everton retain their Premier League status before moving to the new stadium.
“The landscape has changed since Moyes was at Everton. He works under what are perceived from the outside as ruthless owners. It’s not the stability it was when Bill Kenwright was chairman.”
