Savannah Marshall plans to return to boxing in 2025 and rematch Claressa Shields, all the way up to the heavyweight division.

Marshall’s only loss in professional boxing is a 2022 bout against long-time rival Shields.

In the year In 2023, the Briton became the undisputed super-middleweight world champion by defeating Francois Croix-Desseur, but has not boxed since last year, transitioning to MMA and competing in the PFL.

But she plans to return to boxing in 2025. She wants to pursue a rematch with Shields, and is especially eager to fight the American superstar for the heavyweight world title.

Shields is fighting Daniel Perkins for the WBC, WBO and IBF heavyweight championships on February 2.

Marshall expects Shields to win that fight and welcomes a heavyweight title fight with her biggest rival.

“I think I’m going to follow the same thing as Claressa,” Marshall said Sky Sports. “Hopefully he will reschedule this fight.”

It’s a fight that Marshall wants more than anyone else and a challenge for the undisputed heavyweight championship will be even more appealing.

“I went to MMA hoping to find her there, that didn’t happen,” Marshall said. “Fight in March and hopefully her in the summer.

“Size-wise, I’m the biggest out there anyway, height, frame-wise. The pool is very shallow, with the competition. I can carry light-heavy, heavy weight, it’s really not an issue.”

She believes the heavyweight boxing shield offers its benefits. “I’m (bigger than her),” Marshall said. “And hopefully it’s less! So that’s a plus.”

“That’s the biggest fight for both of us.”

Claressa Shields appeared at Savannah Marshall’s post-fight press conference to announce that she was ready to fight again.

Marshall believes her new experience with MMA will make her a more dangerous boxer.

“I was at a point in my career where I needed a bit of a change, I boxed for a long, long time, I boxed for about 23 years,” she said. “I think wrestling and wrestling is the best kind of S&C you can get. I’ve never been that strong. I’ve never been that fit.”

But she added: “I know where I went wrong (in the first shield fight). I know the mistakes I made. And look, I think the first battle was fun, so let’s make the second one even more fun. “

The Shield’s promoter, Dimitri Salita, has invited Marshall to be the call-up side for The Shield’s next fight.
